Operations Manager

Full Time / Year Round

  • The Operations Manager will be second in charge to the CEO and will be responsible for the oversight of North People operations, including Niseko Photography & Guiding and it’s team, all Hokkaido Homes managed properties and property management staff and assisting with the management and promotion of Stay North.

    This is a small but professional team, with the opportunity for significant growth in the foreseeable future.

    • Maintains and directs the daily operations of the business, including human resources, sales, marketing, accounting, IT and other departments

    • Meets with and reports to the CEO about the company’s daily operation, as well as about the CEO’s plans for any upcoming adjustments or developments to business operations strategy, or other company goals and objectives

    • Represents the heir apparent for the CEO and may stand in for the CEO if this senior executive is out of the office or otherwise engaged - this also requires liaison with partners and networking

    • Assists the CEO with staff recruitment and oversees employee professional development programs

    • Develops and implements policies for daily operations, and communicates these policy changes to department supervisors

    • Ensures alignment with current company policies and goals, including those that the Operations Manager creates themselves, as well as those developed by the CEO and other executives

    • Assist with daily activities where needed and any other activities as outlined by the CEO

  • No formal qualifications are required but the following attributes and skills are desired:

    • Proven experience in management roles

    • Advanced organisational skills and the ability to manage time and people

    • High attention to detail (you need to be a perfectionist)

    • Computer skills - proficient in the use of the internet, Microsoft Word and Excel

    • Friendly personality and patience

    • Understanding of the Niseko climate/area and ski industry

    • Interest in skiing/snowboarding and other adventure sports/nature

    • Advanced spoken and written English

    Additonal skills that will be highly regarded include:

    • Skier/snowboarder with specific interest or experience in backcountry skiing/snowboarding

    • Skills in photography, design and/or marketing

    • Previous experience in Niseko and an understanding and knowledge of the Niseko area

    • Any Japanese or other language skills

    • Competitive wage

Guest Services Supervisor

Full Time / Winter Only or Year Round Options

  • The Guest Services Supervisor will oversee all customer relations and bookings. You will be responsible for ensuring that all customer enquiries are responded to and thorough information is collected for all bookings. You will schedule the daily team, ensure efficient daily operations and oversee the delivery of imagery to clients and customers.

    You will also be required to oversee our shop sales, and be involved in the marketing and social marketing of North People sub brands.

    • Liaise with customers via email, the phone and in person. Man the front desk

    • Ensure all customer enquiries are responded to in a timely fashion and bookings are thorough and complete

    • Ensure customers have a quality experience, and that customer and client images are delivered in a timely manner. Deal with customer concerns or complaints.

    • Ensure that operations are conducted in a cost effective and timely manner and in alignment with specifications and quality requirements

    • Schedule photographer/guides, cleaners and snow clearers when necessary

    • Oversee shop sales and assist in managing the photo stock library

    • Assist in marketing of North People sub brands as well as partner relations

    • Provide on ground support for the Operations Manager when they are away from the office

  • No formal qualifications are required but the following attributes and skills are compulsory:

    • Proven experience customer service roles

    • Advanced organisational skills and the ability to manage time

    • High attention to detail (you need to be a perfectionist)

    • Computer skills - proficient in the use of the internet, Microsoft Word and Excel

    • Friendly personality and patience

    • Experience in bookings management

    • Understanding of the Niseko climate/area and ski industry

    • Interest in photography and skiing/snowboarding

    • Advanced spoken and written English

    Additional skills that will be highly regarded but are not compulsory include:

    • Skier/snowboarder with specific interest or experience in backcountry skiing/snowboarding

    • Skills in photography, design and/or marketing

    • Experience using design or movie editing software

    • Previous experience in Niseko and an understanding and knowledge of the Niseko area

    • Any Japanese language skills

Photographer

Full Time / Winter Only or Year Round Options

  • Our photographers guide and photograph customers around the resorts, as well as off-mountain tours and photo shoots. You may also be asked to do contribute to some commercial photography projects.

    You will be in charge of your customers safety and satisfaction, as well as taking and retouching high-quality imagery from each guided tour.

    You will be responsible for improving performance and safety of our operations via participation in all staff training.

    • Safely guide customers around Niseko, in the resorts to find them the best views and powder available while ensuring their satisfaction, and capturing beautiful imagery.

    • Take area and snowshoe tours where required, as well as family and pre-wedding photography.

    • Retouch customer imagery to a high-quality standard and deliver images to customers in a timely fashion

    • Check daily weather and condition updates and participate in all guiding meetings and training

    • Participate in operational planning and develop training and safety systems for Niseko Photography & Guiding’s daily and future operations

    • Take stock photography and video

  • The following qualifications, attributes and skills are compulsory:

    • Relevant guiding, avalanche safety and first aid qualifications - if providing ski photography

    • Proven advanced skier or snowboarder

    • Impressive photography portfolio with own photography gear (or willingness to learn)

    • Proven experience in customer service

    • Advanced leadership and organisational skills and the ability to manage time

    • Advanced skills in photoshop and lightroom (or willing to learn)

    • Friendly personality and patience

    • Experience and demonstrated aptitude to work as a team

    • Understanding of the Niseko climate/area and ski industry

    • Advanced spoken English

    • The following qualifications, attributes and skills are compulsory:

    Additional skills that will be highly regarded:

    • Previous experience in Hokkaido and an understanding and knowledge of the area

    • Videography skills and/or experience using film software such as Final Cut Pro

    • Any Japanese language skills
